| Mountain bike riders |

Trail Building. It has been a long time since swinging an axe/machete/shovel to cut a new mountain bike trail in Rotorua.
In early 2009 Mike Metz and Rob Smail from Bike Culture let me know they were organising volunteer work crews to cut an extension to an existing track through DOC native bush. The DOC guys had approved it, first stage was cutting the line in.
Even though tape is used to periodically mark the track there is always room for interpretation. Creativity comes into consideration when thinking about how fast riders will be going, the terrain immediately before and after the section being cut and a myriad of subtle contributing factors to how the trail will ride.
